Collections of Pakha Sulaiman

Curated by Yap Sau Bin

The exhibition Pesan & Kenangan, held during the Merdeka period at HARTA, celebrates the significant role of artists in shaping national identity and collective aspirations. Drawn from the collection of Pakhruddin Sulaiman, it features 48 artworks by 22 artists. The exhibition centers on themes of "kenangan" (memories), honoring ideas, values, and people, and "pesan" (message), reminding us to strive for a better future.

The artworks explore national aspirations, identity, modernization, urbanization, and the socio-cultural and spiritual ethos of Malaysia. A special tribute is dedicated to the late Roslisham Ismail (Ise), highlighting the importance of friendships and the support within the art community.

Through a diverse range of media, the exhibition reflects on Malaysia's past, engages with its present, and envisions a better future, celebrating the enduring power of art in shaping and reflecting collective memory and identity.
